There is no current evidence that suggests the coronavirus can be transmitted to or from Yorkshire terriers or any other dog breed. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says the disease is spread to humans through person-to-person contact.
However we still are learning about the virus, we have to be precaution to insure everyone is safe and that we can decrease the spread of COVID-19.
Here is a list of tips to keep your yorkie safe and you.
- Walk dogs on a leash at least 6 feet (2 meters) away from others.
- Avoid public places where a large number of people gather.
- Do not put face coverings on pets. Covering a pet’s face could harm them. But you can wear your face mask to protect others and yourself.
- Do not use human sanitizing tissues on your dog.
- Wash your hands after handling their food, waste, or supplies.
- Practice good pet hygiene and clean up after pets properly.
- Talk to your veterinarian if you see anything strange with your yorkie.
- Get up to date with fleas and ticks treatments. Dogs can get fleas and ticks outside or inside. Many vet places are providing road side pick up.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to develop, we have to improvise in order to keep our pets and the rest of the family healthy.
Incase you get sick designate an emergency care giver. Make sure is someone that you trust with your yorkie.
Have a bag with first aid and pet supplies such as food, wipes, blanket, seal treat bag.
